Growing up
in Pacific Beach, Ca, Lauren
was able to
breath in the magic of the
ocean. Her father introduced
her to
surfing at age 8, taking her
tandem surfing in Waikiki,
Hawaii. As
Lauren got older she traveled
with her dad and younger
brother on
surf trips to Cabo and
Scorpion Bay. When the water
was warm she
would surf and when the
vacation ended Lauren would
take her
memories with her, sketching
feelings from another
time and
place. She likens her
paintings to tide pools, the
intricate
detailing within her work
mirrors the same intrigue
that these
aquatic worlds yield. Using
ink and watercolor she
captures the
rhythm of the ocean while her
use of tea bags,
wood chips,
and hand sewn detailing
references the magic and
mystery of
the water. One must see her
works up close to experience
their full
effect. Lauren is now painting
in Montreal, where
she paints
these works to relive the
familiar feeling of home,
family and
the sea.
