Danny

My friend, Danny, said he wanted a painting. Usually if someone asks for a painting I give a dissembling answer. Danny kept at me though while surfing, eating dinner, and movie nights. He never let up. So it was agreed, a hair cut, for a painting. He asked for a big painting, so I decided to work big. I prepared a comfortably large size of about four by four feet. I sketched out a few ideas from some magazines, but ended up using the photograph that was the wallpaper of his laptop. Then onto the painting, it just flowed. Creating Danny's painting was a refreshing step backwards to something safe and familiar. The surfer became Danny, embodying his adventurous Peter Pan attitude. The beautiful chaos of the white water and clouds were balanced by the decided path of the wave. His board shares the same colors as the sun, becoming a focal point for many great adventures. Needless to say, when I gave Danny his painting, he was floored. He did not expect it to be so big and wonderful. I told him his painting was worth, at the very least, another hair cut.
