Camp Hero

Montauk, mid-winter, freezing cold, howling offshore wind, late afternoon. I surfed until I was practically hypothermic, got out, ran up the cliff and grabbed my camera. I shot this while I was still in my wetsuit, my hands aching from the cold. I love the way the light is shining through the lip of the foreground wave. The spray gave these waves such a majestic look. I've been there a hundred times since and have never seen it so perfect.
