This painting was inspired by this amazing piece of wood. But the true catalyst for putting paint on this plank, was an amazing surf session deep in Mainland Mexico last Spring on the Royal Pelagic. We explored endless right hand point setups and ended our trip on a magical day, 4/20/2007. Probably the best surf session of my (our) lives; just indescribable. The point on the right of the painting is inspired by that day. The viewpoint is after you've just ridden the wave for a half mile, had 5 barrels and 15 turns, kicked out, and are frantically running back up the beach to get another. Plus, because there are only four other friends in the water, you are watching most every wave peel endlessly in front of you, riderless and empty. The wave on the left side is based on a sacred secret spot in Baja. I tried to put as little paint on this piece as possible, to better narrate this "Story".
