New Photographer on Exhibit

October 22nd, 2007

Aloha all! David Pu’u has joined the ranks of Waveriders, and has many beautiful images to chose from. David has been a professional photographer for over 10 years now, and can be seen in many of the major publications, including Surfer (Senior Photographer), Surfers Journal; to mainstream concerns such as Sports Illustrated, National Geographic, NY Post, London Daily Mirror, SZ.De, Playboy, Time and many others. David says he swims “maybe 300 days a year. I just enjoy being alone, and being a part of the goings on in the water. I am up to 17 white shark encounters, and innumerable dolphin swims. It gets to the point that frequently the pods get so used to me, that they let me hang out, come up to me in the dark (pre dawn), and scare the crap out of me. Laughing at my response every time.” Take some time and check out his portfolio page, and enjoy!

New Vintage Section Goes Live!

October 10th, 2007

Waveriders Gallery has teamed up with Chris Rohloff to create our new vintage section, featuring the work of Chris’ father Grant Rohloff. The collection of Grant’s work is vast and very extensive. We have managed to offer a nice selection of shots varying from California to Hawaii, and featuring legendary surfers like Greg Noll, Miki Dora, Lance Carson, Pat Curren, and many more. They will be offered in multiple sizes to accommodate those with a limited budget. They are offered in a signed limited edition run as well for those collectors who are looking for something a little more unique. Grant’s work not only entailed print, but he had spent most of his time creating surf films such as “The Wonderful World of Surfing” and the highly acclaimed “Men Who Ride Mountains.” His films not only captured the seriousness of surfing, but also the humorous, real-life of the surfers of the time. His mission for his work was to entertain, and to inform. To him, film making and surfing were so much more than a vocation; they were a way of life. I hope all of you take some time and check out his work, and are as delighted as we are to have his images featured on our site!

The Mentawai Islands Need Help!

September 20th, 2007

If you haven’t already heard, last week there was some rather large earthquake activity in and around the Mentawai Islands, Indonesia. Most of the residents have moved to higher ground, because of the fear of another Tsunami. As a result, thousands are living in unsanitary and cramped conditions in the middle of Monsoon season. With the frequent rains that are common through the area, flus and fevers are spreading fast due to the cramped conditions. Surfaid fears of a very serious malaria outbreak that can incur with these situations. We are now going to be donating all of our proceeds for the Olas Surf poster, done by Robb Havassy, until January 1, 2008, in order to try and aid the horrible situation that these people are dealing with. Robb is donating his portion of the sale as well. We ask that everyone try and do what they can to help. If you prefer to donate directly to Surfaid, you can visit there site, and do what you feel is necessary to aid those in need.
